TR-8: Risk Informed Methods for Industrial Gas Applications of Liquid Nitrogen and Liquid Carbon Dioxide in Occupied Spaces

This is a report of the results of a quantitative risk assessment addressing the risks associated with nitrogen and carbon dioxide that are delivered in liquefied form through piping to indoor processes.

The study considers industry accepted probability of leak, a common hole size and equipment failure rates based on consensus standard CGA P-93—2023, Guideline for Piping Failure Rates in Nontoxic Cryogenic Gas Supply Systems and accepted methods for aggregating equipment. It quantifies the risks based on probability and mitigates them to accepted tolerance levels. This is a departure from traditional methods based on room size only.
