C-28: Guideline for Heat Exposure Indicating Systems on Aluminum Alloy Cylinders

Exposure to temperatures above 350 °F (177 °C) can weaken aluminum cylinders and make them unsafe to fill, even when no visible damage is present. This publication recommends using heat-indicating systems to identify cylinders that may have been exposed to elevated temperatures.

This publication applies to high pressure, seamless refillable aluminum alloy cylinders. While not addressed in this publication, a heat indicating system can also be used on refillable low pressure, aluminum alloy cylinders.
