Abstract

This publication has been prepared as a guide to assist those establishing procedures for changing cylinders from one gas service to another.

The publication emphasizes the need for thorough cylinder inspections to assess performance in previous service and compatibility with the intended new service. It is intended for personnel knowledgeable in compressed gas handling and cylinder preparation and serves as a general guide rather than a comprehensive inspection procedure. Certain cylinders may be restricted to specific services or require specialized processing beyond the scope of these recommendations.

The recommendations in this publication do not apply to:
–nonrefillable and composite cylinders;
–cylinders with internal linings, plating, or treatments; and
–cargo tanks, portable tanks, and tank cars.
